Underground Propane Tank Inspections
Beaufort Gas Works wants you to enjoy your propane tank for many years. Our tank inspections help prevent unnecessary gas loss, environmental damage and safety risks. They also eliminate the risk of incorrect or incomplete testing that could put your family and property in danger. We continue to appreciate your trust in letting us handle your propane tank's protection with the integrity and professionalism that you deserve. We will also inspect all piping, regulators and fittings that are on the exterior and are visible. We will document any issues that may be found and report them back to you.

Underground Propane Tanks
Underground propane tanks are exposed to natural electrical currents in the ground that can cause corrosion through a process called electrolysis. This deterioration can lead to leaks, property damage and safety concerns.

Anodes
Every underground tank that we bury will have a magnesium anode attached. This anode protects the tank and is the sacrificial piece of the system. We take preliminary readings during burial and document the results. These anodes will need to be replaced eventually to remain effective.

Required Testing
Corrosion protection and periodic testing are not just recommended- they are required by National Fire Code (NFPA 58) for all underground tanks installed after 2011.
